When going on a trip, long or short, there is always the dilemma of what to do with your furry baby while you’re gone. All animals handle their owners being away a little differently. I used to have a cat that would basically nap the entire time we were gone, not even waking up for the sitter. But other animals get a little more antsy when Mom or Dad is away. Some can’t stay out of trouble unless they travel with their parents, wherever they go. Others are satisfied to have a sitter around as long as they give them as much attention as their owners. In Millie’s case, an adorable Welsh springer spaniel, she couldn’t bear to be on her own for even the short time the sitter was away. So she snuck to the top of her house, shimmied out of the skylight, and ended up on the roof! Check out more photos of the poor marooned Millie, who was eventually saved by a few firefights and animal experts.
While Julia Wright was on a trip to Spain, her Welsh springer spaniel Millie managed to get into a bit of mischief. Her dog sitter was away and the antsy dog slipped out of a top-floor skylight and ended up stuck on the roof!
A neighbor heard Millie’s nervous whining and was shocked when she went outside and saw her perched right up against the roof’s edge! The dog eventually drew a crowd of concerned people, wondering how to get the her down.
A neighbor called both the dog sitter and Wright’s son Andy who was at work; but when he arrived, it only made matters more scary. As soon as Millie saw Andy, she wriggled with excitement, and it looked like she was going to jump off the roof!
Once Andy had hidden from her sight, someone finally called the Worcester Fire Service and the Wythall Animal Sanctuary to tell them the dog needed help. And they sped over with ladders, leases, dog treats; anything it would take to get Millie down safely!
While the sanctuary’s manager headed up to the skylight with a catching pole, a fireman scurried up the ladder to hold the dog in a loving embrace. After being stuck on the roof for about two hours, Millie was finally pulled back inside, lucky to have not fallen from such a high height!
Though shaken and a bit dehydrated, Millie was totally fine! She got a big drink of water and was back to her fun, attention-loving self almost immediately.
Wright received news of Millie’s antics after she landed back in Birmingham from her trip. And she couldn’t believe it when she saw the photos that were sent to her phone. “When the plane landed and we switched our phones on we had tons of pictures of the dog on the roof. I thought it was Photoshopped,” she explained to Daily Mail.
But, thanks to the firefighters and animal sanctuary, Millie’s stunt happened without any injury, though Wright is nervous about leaving her alone again! “My daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks and I think I’m going to have to take the dog to the wedding,” she explained.
