Home repairs are always expensive, and one of the priciest items of all is countertops. It’s sort of cringe-worthy thinking about dropping a ton of money on something that isn’t necessarily exciting, and you actually don’t have to!
Kelli from I’m Flying South shared her idea of painting directly over her bathroom sink and countertop to give it a fresh new look, and it worked so well!
“It was a fairly quick, easy, inexpensive update that made a huge difference in the feel of the rooms,” Kellie wrote on her Remodelaholic post about her project. She said that the beige marble wasn’t really her style and wanted something that tied the counter better into the walls she freshly painted.

Instead of spending a ton of money ad replacing the entire counter, she just decided painting over the whole thing! The first thing she did was take off the sink faucet and scrub the whole thing down to make sure it was completely clean. Next, she pulled off all the old caulk around the edges and sanded down the entire counter, including the sink. “Sanding is pretty important, as this is how you’re going to get your surface nice and grabby for the paint,” Kelli wrote. After the sanding was finished, Kelli covered the whole thing with epoxy before starting to paint. She started with a base coat meant for tile and tubs, and painted it with a foam roller, making a thin coat to avoid bubbles.

Kelli ended up doing three coats with drying time in between, and finally she covered the whole thing with the bright white paint. The last step to the countertop makeover was to add a new faucet the better fit the updated look of the sink! The result is simply stunning, and it was a complete bathroom makeover that cost about $20 to complete in total!

“For us, it was the perfect budget makeover for our 90s-tastic sinks,” Kelli wrote.
